MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
We're all aware of the turbulent times in the currency markets of late, and the affects this has on exporters. Our experts are keeping a close eye on this issue and providing advice where possible. Keep an eye out for the regular bulletins from BusinessNZ economist John Pask - the third installment will be out this week.
BusinessNZ and the Industry Capability Network (ICN) joined forces last week to host a series of seminars on how to win bigger government tenders and what it is that supply chain procurement managers (local and global) are looking for in supply chain partners.
The rewards for business and for the economy of having greater involvement in local and global supply chains are significant. ICN consultant Deb Archbold found there is room to boost revenue for New Zealand suppliers up to $170m for every $1 billion spent on major projects/chains - a potential 25% increase.
We had a good line up of speakers for Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. To view their presentations and find out more click here.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade is currently interested in hearing from businesses that export services to India, to identify ways in which the India FTA could make it easier for you.
Have you encountered any regulatory barriers in doing business in India? For example:
-
restrictions on individuals (eg. difficulties in recognition of qualifications or obtaining business visas, requirements to obtain local licenses);
-
restrictions on investors (eg. requirements to operate in joint ventures with local partners, requirements to employ locals or restrictions on the ability of New Zealanders to be transferred to work in subsidiaries or affiliates in India, local representation requirements for boards of directors, restrictions on the ability to invest in a new enterprise or invest equity in an Indian company); or
-
financial or business restrictions (eg. restrictions on supplying services from New Zealand including via the internet, difficulties competing with local firms who benefit from government preferences, complex and discriminatory local regulations).
Please send any questions or information on barriers to services trade with India, ideally by 12 August 2011, to Brad Burgess, Services Negotiator for the India FTA: brad.burgess@mfat.govt.nz or Joanne Dow, India FTA Coordinator: joanne.dow@mfat.govt.nz.
